Decorating using Wall Light Fixtures

Decorating using wall light fixtures or sconces can add aesthetic value to the atmosphere in a hall way or a room. The wall lights not only add the much-needed lighting to a space but they also contribute to your decor. Basically, fixture designs of wall lightings can determine the amount of light it can produce. There are designs that can brightly lit or dimly lit your hall way or room.

If you prefer to have your hall way brightly lit, make sure that the fixture you choose can light your space properly. However, choose a complementing design that matches well with your decors, paintings and other wall hangers in your hallway or room. There may be several designs to choose from, but basically, antiques go with antiques, steel and glass goes with cool colors, brighter designs for wider hallways and rooms, and so on. The right wall light enhances your space and adds architectural detail to a dull, monotonous, featureless hall way or room. Work on the Hallways

There are wall sconces that allow light to project up toward the ceiling and down toward the floor. This type can make your hallway appear wider and taller. To increase the illusion of width, choose wall sconces with thin profiles. This can help a lot. In making your room or space wider, hang the lights between five and six feet off the floor. Space them between six to eight feet away from each other. In possible, hang the lights in pairs on each side of the hallway or room. If it is not possible to hang them in pairs, just stagger the wall lights and maintain the balance between them.

Work on a Media Room

The media room would need enough light for you to move safely across the room. But it does not need so much light that can cause a glare on your TV set or projector screen. Choose a wall sconce such as a ceramic closed bottom sconce with slotted openings along its front and top wall mounted. This provides just the right amount of light without becoming a distraction to your media viewing. You can hang these sconces on the perimeters of the room, painted to match the wall color. If you can’t find one on your first search, continue to the next search. There are a variety of designs available in DIY stores.

Work on your Fireplace

Fireplaces would look great with wall lamps on each side. There are several designs you can choose from. Choose wall lamps that primarily match and complements your indoor decor. You can actually enhance a rustic decor using lamps fashioned from wrought iron or use the deer antler wall lamps. You can also paint the inexpensive polished brass single or double light wall sconces with bronze and cover them with 4 inch to 6 inch mini lampshades. Additionally, customize these mini lamp shades by gluing beaded trim around the bottom. It would look authentic and original.

Work with your Foyers and Entryways

Large chandeliers that hang from the ceiling in a foyer or entryway provide so much lighting. That vast amount of space does not actually require any additional lighting all the time. You only need more lighting if the ceiling soars up to two stories. But having a chandelier, does not stop you from installing wall lightings too.

Choose single-light wall sconces that match your chandelier. Make sure the fixture blend each other and does not distract the decor of the space. To balance the wall lights in the foyer or entryway, space the wall lights six feet apart and mounted six feet above the floor. This is the best way in decorating using wall light fixtures in these spaces.
